My boss sat me down last week for a "casual chat". He started talking about this and that, then he said, "HR told me she ALWAYS see you go for lunch alone." And then he threw around terms like teamwork and motivation.

I am peeved because
1) I've bumped into HR only once during lunch. Maybe she's secretly watching me and I don't know it. Well, I'm secretly hating her guts. There was this time when she made me wait for an hour at the reception. This was before I joined the company and I was meeting her to sign the contract. One whole hour and she didn't even bother apologizing. She merely said, "I had something urgent to do." Yeah, doesn't everybody?

2) It is not true that I ALWAYS go for lunch alone because I do go with a particular group. And I told that to my boss. He just shrugged and said "I don't know leh." And went back to talking about teamwork.

3) Is it even anyone's business that I lunch alone?? I like to pop by Kino or Times to check out their books, so I grab a quick lunch and go. What is the point of working near a bookshop if I can't pop by whenever I want to? Why are they giving me grief? My lunch-time is my own time isn't it? Perhaps not because no time is my own time I realize. I'm required to work 24/7. BAHHHHHH!!!

Work has been all consuming. People here work ALL THE TIME. My boss sends out emails at 2am and 5am. I wonder if he sleeps with his Blackberry.

Have not been posting much on this site because I've been trying to do other stuff so that I can stop working for stability and money and start working for ...well...because I want to work. Hah! Is that even possible?

Here are a list of movies I'm looking forward to this year:

1) The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (Book by Douglas Adams)
I caught this last Sat. So witty. So very British. Marvin the robot reminded me of my middle-aged ex-colleague who moaned about everything. I started to miss the UK a little during the show. Just a teensy weensy bit.

2) Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe (Book by CS Lewis)
I saw the preview recently and it looked really good. I just hope the Lion will look real enough.

3) Bewitched
So pleased that Nicole Kidman is playing Samantha the witch. I used to watch reruns of the tv series every morning before work.

4) The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants. (Book by Ann Brashares)
Total teen flick. Want to watch it because of Amber Tamblyn (Joan on Joan of Arcadia) and Alexis Bledel (Rory on Gilmore Girls)

5) Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Duh. I want to see how Cho Chang will look like.

Movies I'm not sure I'll be watching:
1) Mr and Mrs Smith
Yes, Brad Pitt is drool-worthy but everytime I see him with Angelina Jolie, I get upset. I'm pathetic, I know.

2) Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
One of my all-time favourite books. I have a feeling the movie will not live up to the book. The question is whether I want to spend money to find out.

"Go to the Dark Side, choose Dark Chocolate" I can't stop munching on the Star Wars dark chocolate M&M's. Mmmm. (lepra - have u gone to the Dark Side with your Darth Vader light saber?)

Star Wars Episode 3 was good. After the movie, I thought "Wow, George Lucas must have planned the entire back-story before the first Star Wars (Episode 4) was even filmed." I find it amazing when writers plan a whole series out in such detail. Planning one single story is already rather difficult but a whole series? Mucho difficult. JK Rowling apparently has millions of time-maps to remind her of events that must take place.

I think I would have enjoyed the movie more if my colleague had greeted me. He sat down next to me in the cinema and NOT ONCE did he turn around to say hi. What is wrong with him? I sat there thinking, "Does he not like me? We had lunch together (with other ppl) the other day so he knows who I am. Why is he ignoring me?"

During my first week in the company, I would walk along the corridor and smile at everyone I met. I found out that this is not what everyone does. When I first arrived in UK, I thought it was weird how total strangers would greet me, "Hello love, and how are you today?" Ok, that was usually old ladies. The younger ones would go, "Hey, how are you?". Now that I'm back in Asia, I have to remember to only greet people I know. If you greet a stranger, they look back at you all weird.

TV stuff: The fall schedule has been announced. Smallville is back for its fifth season. Yay! I've been complaining about Smallville Season 4 but watch the 90 minute finale if you can. It is so, so good.

Charmed is back for the eigth season. I can't believe it outran Buffy! Ack!

Lost, Desperate Housewives, OC and Alias will be back.

Lost is going to be showing on Channel 5 soon (I think). Catch that show if you can. The first few episodes may be a bit scary but stay with it because it gets better.

Joan of Arcadia will be cancelled after Season 2. Bummer.

Miserable today. I realized that you just have to make one mistake and everybody talks about it. Hello! I'm new! Obviously I'll make mistakes. Or maybe I'm not supposed to. People here seriously TALK about others. It's so scary. I have to grow thicker skin.

I bought a frivolous teenlit book during lunch - Bras and Broomsticks. It was 20% off at Times. It's about teenager Rachel who finds out that her sister is a witch. Sounds like a younger version of Charmed. I read the first chapter on Sarah Mlynowski's website and found myself wanting to know what happens next.

I have free tickets to the preview on Thursday 19th. Hehehe. Can't wait, can't wait. Crappy seats but who cares!

All the processes are pissing me off. So far, I've visited
Immigration office: 5 times
Ministry of Manpower office: 3 times

And I'll have to return to the Immigration office again at least twice for my PR.
I've applied for a Social Visit Pass, (actually two Social Visit passes because they only gave me a two-month stamp so I had to go back again) a PR, a Temporary Employment Pass and a Permanent Employment Pass. Sucks to infinity. Yea, that’s my new word. I dunno where that came from but Sucks to infinity.

My blog must have been a bore lately. Have been adjusting to my new work environment. I’ve forgotten the art of updating a blog in the office. Hee.

I’m really shy. Years spent in the UK has helped me a little. But being around new colleagues still makes me nervous. I don’t know what to say, I wonder what they think of me, I wonder if I’ll be able to do the job…

I’m glad I found a job. The problem is I’ve gone back to the same industry because no other industry will hire me. Ugh. Sometimes I wish I have some sort of magic powers where I can wish for a particular job. And if I don’t like it, I can magically switch to another role. No interviews, no job-hunt, come to think of it – no need to study either. Yes, yes, I know that if u don’t work for something, u wouldn’t appreciate it etc etc. Just let me have a moment to enjoy my daydream ok?

Found a job at last! Phew. Will be starting in 2 weeks as I need to apply for an Employment Pass because my PR is still not ready.

Went shoe shopping today and managed to find a suitable pair at Charles and Keith. It’s my first pointy-headed heels. I never wear heels in London as the pavements are too uneven. Was debating between the black and pink pair. Finally settled on the black as it’s more versatile. But the pink is really nice too. Ooh, the temptation.

TV news: Ack! Tru Calling stopped at six episodes. Just when it’s getting really good. I’m not sure if it’ll get renewed. Sigh. If you’re looking for something to watch, try Lost.
